Quick answer
Choose Materia Medica AI when the immediate job is a mobile reference and learning environment: search nine materia medica works and four repertories offline, use AI-assisted rubric search when connected, practise case taking, and keep selected app data synchronized through a private Google Drive app folder. Choose Homeo AI when the job starts with a completed case narrative and requires a reviewable path through proposed symptoms, rubric mappings, source passages, remedy differentiation, and follow-up comparison.
This is a workflow comparison, not a claim that either product selects a clinically correct remedy. Materia Medica AI's current store pages describe it as the rebuilt successor to Materia Medica Lite. The Android listing was updated on 27 June 2026 and shows more than 100,000 downloads. The iOS listing shows version 1.0.20 dated 9 July 2026. Those dates make it a current mobile buying decision rather than a comparison with an abandoned reference app.
The products are also sold differently. Materia Medica AI is free to download with in-app purchases and a seven-day paid-plan trial. Homeo AI is a browser-based case-review workflow. A clinic should compare the exact plan, recurring term, devices, AI limits, source coverage, data flow, and export that it will actually use.
What Materia Medica AI currently includes
The official Google Play description lists nine materia medica works, four repertories, an AI rubric search, a Remedy Finder, 123 historical cases, a case-taking tutor, and fourteen interface languages. The reference library is described as available offline after installation. AI features need an internet connection.
The tutor has three modes in the Android description: simulated cases, a live coach, and guided observation. That makes the app potentially useful to students and practitioners who want prompts while learning how to structure an interview. It is not the same job as converting a practitioner's approved narrative into proposed rubrics and an inspectable differential.
The US Apple storefront lists several in-app purchase amounts: Ads Free at USD 39.99, Student at USD 49.99, Practitioner at USD 99.99, Master Plan at USD 179.99, and Clinic at USD 199.99. The description also refers to Pro monthly or annual auto-renewing subscriptions. The storefront does not unambiguously bind every displayed amount to a duration, country, tax treatment, or renewal cadence. Treat those as US storefront observations on 6 August 2026, not a universal price table. Confirm the checkout screen on the intended device and account before purchasing.
Where Materia Medica AI is genuinely strong
Its clearest advantage is mobile reference access. A practitioner can search a substantial classical library without relying on a clinic computer or continuous connection. Offline availability is a practical benefit during travel or in a room with unreliable internet, provided the required content has already been downloaded and the device remains supported.
The app also combines reference work and structured learning. A student can move between remedy reading, repertory lookup, historical cases, and a simulated interview without assembling several separate apps. The Remedy Finder and AI rubric search may reduce lookup time, but the user still needs to inspect the underlying source and reject an unsuitable match.
Its current privacy materials describe a relatively specific architecture. The policy says core app data is stored locally in SQLite. Optional backup uses the app's private Google Drive app-data folder. AI prompts are sent to Google Vertex AI or Gemini only after consent and are not retained beyond generating the response, according to the developer. The policy names Firebase, Vertex AI, Google Drive, Apple sign-in, AdMob, RevenueCat, and Google Analytics 4 as service providers. These are vendor statements to verify against device behaviour and the current policy, but they give a clinic concrete questions to test.
How Homeo AI differs
Homeo AI is designed around an inspectable case workflow. The practitioner begins with a completed, de-identified narrative, reviews how language was interpreted, changes or rejects proposed symptoms and rubrics, opens linked source passages, compares remedy differences, and carries the approved reasoning into follow-up.
That is different from having a compact library and tutor available on a phone. Materia Medica AI may be the better tool for reading a remedy on a train, practising an interview, or checking a repertory without a connection. Homeo AI may be the better fit when a practitioner wants a visible correction trail between the case note, rubric set, cited source material, and differential.
Neither product should receive credit for the other's capabilities. Homeo AI should not be described as containing Materia Medica AI's nine works, four repertories, historical-case collection, or mobile tutor. Materia Medica AI should not be assumed to preserve Homeo AI's exact narrative-to-rubric review and follow-up workflow because it has AI search and case-taking features.

Data and subscription questions to settle
Materia Medica AI's privacy policy is dated 21 May 2026 and was updated on 19 June 2026. Its EULA was updated on 2 June 2026. The documents say the app is for education and reference, AI output is probabilistic, and the clinician remains responsible for decisions. That is useful disclosure, but a professional buyer still needs to test the operational boundary.
Ask what content remains on the device, what enters the optional Drive backup, whether backup is encrypted independently of the Google account, and what is deleted when the in-app deletion control is used. Verify whether analytics or advertising identifiers are active on the purchased tier. The Apple privacy label separately reports categories that may be used for tracking or linked to identity, including identifiers, usage, purchases, and contact information. A store privacy label and a vendor privacy policy answer different questions, so review both rather than treating either as complete.
For any AI feature, use only a completed, de-identified test case. Remove names, dates of birth, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, record numbers, photographs, rare locations, and combinations that could identify a person. Confirm the exact prompt payload on a controlled device if the clinic's governance permits that inspection.
A reproducible clinic test
Prepare six completed, de-identified cases that one practitioner has already reviewed. Include two straightforward cases, two with close differentials, one follow-up, and one incomplete narrative. Separately prepare five reference tasks and three simulated interview exercises.
In Materia Medica AI, time an offline remedy lookup, an offline repertory search, an AI rubric query, and a Remedy Finder task. For each result, record the cited source, accepted and rejected suggestions, correction time, connection requirement, and whether the result can be exported or reconstructed outside the app. Run the tutor exercises and note whether prompts improve question structure or merely add plausible but unnecessary questions.
In Homeo AI, enter the same six de-identified narratives. Record every proposed symptom and rubric that the practitioner accepts, edits, or rejects. Open the linked passages, check whether the differential changes after correction, and test whether a later follow-up keeps the earlier rationale intelligible.
Measure both tools on total checking time, unsupported claims found, source traceability, reproducibility, export quality, device continuity, and the full one-year cost for the required accounts. Do not score a tool because its output happens to match a prior prescription. That would reward hindsight rather than a safe, repeatable review process.
Known limits and clinical responsibility
Download counts, star ratings, library size, and historical cases do not establish clinical accuracy. An offline text can still be the wrong edition for a clinic's needs. An AI rubric match can still miss a qualifier or overstate a phrase. A simulated tutor can teach a pattern without establishing that the pattern is appropriate for a real patient.
Homeo AI can also misread a narrative, suggest an unsuitable rubric, omit a relevant passage, or produce a plausible differential that needs correction. Inspectability reduces hidden work; it does not guarantee correctness.
Neither product replaces diagnosis, referral, an emergency-care decision, practitioner judgment, prescription, potency, dosage, or follow-up responsibility. Do not enter a live case when urgent conventional assessment may be required, and do not use a mobile suggestion as authority for treatment.
Conditional verdict
Choose Materia Medica AI if the priority is an actively maintained mobile library, offline reference access, a case-taking tutor, and optional device-to-Drive continuity. Confirm the exact checkout cadence and privacy controls on the intended platform before paying.
Choose Homeo AI if the priority is an inspectable workflow from a completed case narrative to corrected rubrics, linked passages, remedy differentiation, and follow-up. If the clinic needs both mobile reference and case review, test the products as complementary tools. The decision should follow measured correction time, data handling, source fit, export, and total cost, not the number of AI features in a store description.
